Its been a very busy month for everyone here at Notio Studio! We've submitted designs to a few competitions and are, as ever, very busy with freelance work on peopleperhour.
One of the competitions we entered was the ArchTriumph Architectural Treehouse competition. The aim of the competition was to design and present a 20 sqm treehouse retreat for a city couple. The treehouse was to be at least 2m off the ground and contain dedicated reading spaces as well as clear connections to surrounding views and landscapes.
We choose a site in Tentsmuir Forest, across the Tay from Dundee, and set about designing what we would call the Hy House.
The Hy House is based on the concept of dividing the floor area into definite spaces that each have specific views and spacial qualities. There are three storeys, the library, the main living space and the bedroom. Each have been designed to maximise efficient use of space in such a small structure, while also having three individual spacial qualities.
This week also marked the third session out of four for the Starter for 6 programme. We have learnt so much so far and it's crazy to think the process is almost over! It will be no time until we present our pitch, hopefully everything we've learnt during the sessions and all the work we've done will help us on the day, although I feel like we're already benefiting from all that we've learnt.
