The macromicro studio is a highly innovative zero-energy prototype building located at The University Botanic Gardens, Dundee. The studio was developed over the course of two years with the 5th Year masters students in Architecture and Planning in collaboration with MSc student projects in Engineering and Physics. It was built by members of Notio Studio while they were studying at the University of Dundee.
All three continued to work beyond their graduation and saw the first phase of the studio completed in Spring 2014. The sustainable design showcases the integration of existing and emerging materials, services, renewable and low embodied energy systems and promotes local and regional industry and skills. The studio, through its design and construction, has influenced our approach to design in terms of fabric performance, construction detailing, and general architectural intent.
